Sobriety

Up all night fighting a demon known as me-

setting up a simple fire in a wood pregnant with sunrise.

The woodfire trails smoke in a quiet early morn,

sun rising blue through fume of burning embers-

and in a mind cacophanous suddenly finding a peace

I leave behind the shambles of a shattered life;

bidding goodbye to a life full of regret

and hello to a new life, clean slate, new hope.

    Very well done. I spent years as a drunk. I am happy to be clean and sober.

      Yes, I did my share, and a few others as well. Life is so much better now than it was then
