We grew up on Hanna-Barbera,
the Smurfs, the Snorks, and Richie Rich.
We saw the Empire strike back
before the Jedi returned,
learning Luke and Leia are related
and Vadar was there father.
Then we went Back to the Future,
with Doc Brown and Michael J
and wished we were Big,
to play the floorboard piano.
Those days we had Big Wheels
and what was the deal with the Sit and Spin?
Frankie went to Hollywood to Relax,
and George Michael gave us Faith.
Wait what do you mean he isn’t straight?
We walked like Egyptians,
and did the Locomotion.
Always with our overly feathered hair.
We watched the wall fall down,
and students march Tiananmen Square,
from the comfort of our homes.
We saw love and music die,
with Lennon and Marley.
The Challenger made our nation cry.
Our clothes were oversized,
Brightly colored, and mismatched.
We have been called generation X,
the lost generation, and punks.
We’re the children of the 80’s,
idealistic, eccentric, unmatched.

Very well written. You've managed to capture the spirit of the 80's for sure

I liked the line "George Michael gave us Faith wait what do you mean hes's not straight?" That gave me a chuckle because I remember when that came out. Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest!

Welcome to AllPoetry!
I really like how you got so many titles in there, fitting the poem nicely. Very cleverly done. I am not technically part of the X generation, was born early 70's. But I certainly remember growing up on these things.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep expressing through writing.

This is very good. You got a lot in there. Again I love reading about my own generation. Good luck.
