There was a Mongolian khan,
Whose ger was as big as a barn;
It would hold at a feast
Twenty score at the least...
Of course, this is a traveller's yarn!
Whose ger was as big as a barn;
It would hold at a feast
Twenty score at the least...
Of course, this is a traveller's yarn!
Author notes
Ger - the Mongolian name for the round felt tent, sometimes referred to by the Turkic word "yurt", (There is, or at any rate used to be, a luxuriously equipped one on view in the Horniman museum in London!)
And I assume that most Allpoetry members will appreciate the reference to Coleridge's "Kubla Khan".

The flap of a ger has no dorlock,
No flunky to knuckle his forlock;
But in far Xanadu
They make much more tadu…
(Oh damn, here’s a person from Porlock!)

Cute ...
but it's not all that funny. I was hoping for something more humorous than a tentful.

Yes, but when you consider how Coleridge dreamed it...
