As poetry rests quietly by my side
while sweet memories of you haunt my mind
I fail to see the table set for two
The art and craft of a poet
lingers at ones fingertips
as light once again eludes my soul
Forever I run back
Covet thy darkness!
scolds my inner child
Days go by~
The soul becomes numb
Endless tasks set forth day by day
Running amuck as time ticks forward
chimes the angry clock!
Literature books and sleepy haze
Perhaps another chapter I've over looked
Of golden strands and ruffles of blue
I return to the other side!

wonderfully written dear! very well done

A sense of unreality in the first stanza, "sleepy haze," "memories haunt," and "fail to see."
The second puts me in mind of writer's block and endless rewrites, trying to achieve elusive perfection.
It seems the inner child is admonishing quietude and seclusion from the endless soul-numbing tasks that can consume our lives. Sometimes the need to prune back for more purposeful growth and worthier fruit is essential, and we are too busy 'scrambling' through our days to notice. In the "haze" we may overlook important "chapters."
Beautiful description of Alice "golden strands and ruffles of blue" and her returning to 'real life.'

From this, I take that we are all always missing what's there in front of us, as we search for the greener grass and the ever present Must-Do on our to-do lists.
My only quibble is "convent thy darkness" - was that to be convert or covet maybe?
This is a almost melancholy, introspective piece, enjoyed it!

*smiles* that's great. ily.

lol...GPS systems..now thats funny...
I doubt that Alice would know what to do with such a thing..and besides that would take away from the mystery and adventure of it all......

Yes we are...
for is not the grass always greener on the other side? Some spend their entire life trying to obtain that which they can never achieve. Never realizing that the journey is what needs their attention not the destination. This poem brought to mind a song by DMB..."Human as to Human, the future in no place, to place, your better days..." from Cry Freedom Cry. Great write~

A deep and though provoking piece, well written and a smooth read. And it's very true, tasks are never done, there's no end in site. Its a long journey that we all must go through.
"Endless tasks set forth day by day
Running amuck as time ticks forward
chimes the angry clock!"
A great stanza, so much meaning in just those 3 short lines. Well done my friend.

I was struck by the words "endless tasks set forth day by day" our work in never done and I guess life revolves around those endless tasks... and we are like Alice having to adapt to meet the challenge.

The second stanza of this captured my attention the most. It's always there, but the light eludes us. Then the days go numb where we realize that time is an interesting thing itself because we know we have it in us but the calendar falls and nothing has been done. I live in the other side and sleep there as well. I sometimes ask myself why I go through the daily time clock, it means so little to me in light of the words that I long to sculpture and share. I actually believe that I am leaving tracks in the sand for my children and grandchildren to read and treasure. Then this darkness comes over me wondering if they will ever even take the time to read anything I have invested in. If I missed this a mile, it does not matter. I didn't miss it for 'me'. And if your words provoked something in me that has nothing to do with what you were saying, that is all the better. You struck home to someone and changed their night. Isn't that all we really want? To just communicate something that touches someone else's soul? RC

My dear RC
~Your children will listen and learn not only from the words you speak but of the ones you leave...
For me thats the best part of poetry..knowing that long after im gone my words will remain...
and yes, it is more than we can ever hope for to enlighten another, the beauty of ones poetry should be open to interpretation.
We open new door ways and windows to souls who are willing to see....smiles...
Welcome to my table...now set for, four~
Thank you so much for this amazing comment...

This is visual and aptly named...
We do (especially females) tend to
seek the opposite of where we are at...
or who we are. For some, it becomes
an obsession that distracts from real life.
For others, it is a magic that can transform
reality as it is into the dream always hoped for.
