Stepping onto the flight line, such a clear June morning.
Feeling the rush of the adrenaline crawling
Through every limb of my tense, excited frame.
Looking ahead to my trusty steed
That beautiful white and blue plane.
Walking slowly, trying to seem so nonchalant
Trying to contain my excitement, but finding that its something I can't
Quite keep a grip on.
My first time solo, oh what a treat!
I never thought I'd reach the day, when I wasn't just fresh meat.
Climbing into the cockpit
Strapping myself in
Unable to clear my face of its quirky little grin.
Flipping the switches, igniting the engine
Gripping the wheel, ready to begin.
Throttling forward, oh this was it
That's when I suddenly realised "Oh shit"
I forgot to check the fuel lines, and this truly was it.
The engine sputters, and then it dies.
I'm going nowhere, this isn't my chance to fly.
Having no petrol is such a big thing.
Author notes
This truly did happen to me, when I first went solo for my pilot's licence.

Nice job, CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!
Most people would check everything to amke sure it all runs smoothly before a big event like that. Apparently, not you.
I see that the Airplane image probably caught your eye when you viewed the main page of the contest. Glad to see someone else has used an option here.
As for the poem itself...the form, kinda throws me off my dear. There is some weird rhyming pattern, though rhyming nonetheless. Kudos to you. And: here's a bonus, you een used semi-big vocab words! Hooray!
(Sorry, have to poke fun at my twin somewhere.
)
Thank-you ever so much for entering my contest. As you see, I have done an "eye for an eye" here.
Good luck with both your entry, and yoru own contest.
I love you, Twin. ♥
