How can I be proud to be black
when all I see is the ignorance, stubborness, hatred, violence and self destruction of my people?
All the history that we made, the positive impacts we gave that made American what it is today
is all overshadowed, dark and translucent, now something we barely pay attention to.
How can I be proud to be born a descendant of royalty
as a bastard baby, cause my parents weren't traditionally married?
And how can I be proud to be part of the most beautiful race of people on God's green earth when we
do the most UGLIEST, frivolous, and self ridiculing things?
How can I be proud of my liberty when it seems that during slavery, we weren't such a hateful, ignorant and volatile ethnicity?
Even BEFORE slavery, in Africa, we were BIG on family
we were strong, well bonded, loving and complete families.
The baby mamas and baby daddys were traditionally married
therefore making the household and the family complete.
And even shortly AFTER slavery, except for the lynchings
the segregation, and racial inequality,
we were good people, smart, respectful, working, and caring.
Back white people were the fungus of America with their hate filled crimes
but some where down the line we began to lose our shine.
The gangs started, the drugs, we became our own worst enemy.
And our families began to break apart after being broken previously due to slavery.
We've become the most stubborn, selfish and self centered ethnicity.
And our music stars have the audacity to degrade our women bringing down their true worth.
Some of our music has grwon to barely tasteful, negative, and barely worth listening to.
So how can I be proud of a race that has clearly lost sight of where it came from, becoming barbaric in their gangsta mentality.
And it don't MATTER how many good black people their are,
MOST of them ain't DOIN' nothing, and they're a minority within a minority.
We need to do betta, cause we the most influential people on God's green earth.
And you know what makes it worse?
Our bad overpowers our good and it don't help as much at hurts.
Let me ask you, "if the world was more like black people."
Would it be better off, or would it be worse?...
Think about it... why are YOU proud to be black?"
Author notes

There is a lot of truth in this poem and that doesn't upset me. How your talkin about how bad some in the black race are is even cool. I'm just mad that this is the truth and I see it everyday. You have those who struggle to make a better name for the black race and those who drag us down. Great write cause it spiked a thought that was in my head.
