The concept of posthumous pardon is hard to comprehend,
you cannot reinstate a life once you’ve brought it to an end.
There must be lots of innocents locked away in jail,
who’s attempt to prove their innocence is simply bound to fail.
The case of cot death murder charges certainly comes to mind,
with a so called “expert” witness of the egocentric kind.
Now justice needs ten jurors to that I can relate,
but it only needs one “expert” to seal a person’s fate.
With circumstantial evidence the “expert”just held sway,
he used the law of averages to get them locked away.
When seated in the jury room to make the vital choice,
you usually find that bigots have the loudest voice.
There’s always one who wont have none who’s favourite word is no,
then there’s one whose aim is to catch a train
whose certain of guilt from the start if justice was done it was luck that
had won all done with the goodness of heart.
Now the police are almost human though sometimes it is hard to tell,
if you’ve got a black beard and a duffle coat you’d better run like hell.
Promotion always wins the day when justice is at stake,
when evidence gets in the way justice is hard to take.

great job poet
black beard and duffle bag better run like Hell! Only negative was who's should be whose I think...but spirited write with some valid points. personally very troubled by the death penalty and thankful for the "Innocense Project" that has freed many innocents from death row with DNA evidence. unfortunately, justice in some places is totally political rather than true justice...thanks for pointing that out in well-versed way and thanks for entering! -
You're point well said and taken.
True, many get lost in the system, and I'm glad you spoke up on this particular subject/virtue.

Brought about memories of those who were executed and later were 'exonerated'.
This is a touching and sincere write that provoked anger within.
I can only wonder how many more ( than we are told ) have been proven to be innocent...after the fact.
Thank You for entering! -
Enlightening poem, I agree with key arguments you've made. Thank you for entering the contest, good luck.

I wonder sometimes if there really is a thing called justice. I personally do not believe in justice, as a matter of fact I think the whole justice sytem is so very unfair.
I love the way you wrote you poem.
Great job.

A well written, thought provoking piece, the end line seals this watertight " when evidence gets in the way justice is hard to find"
Sadly there are miscarriages of justice but also sadly our penal system within the UK is too lenient. With the overcrowding in prisons they see fit to halve sentences " for good behaviour" Surely it must be paramount that first of all a person is truly guilty and secondly that once established they serve the full length of their sentence?
Good luck in the contest.

Many thanks for your kind comments on "Justice" I agree with what you say about the guilty. My chief concern was
the poor innocent mothers. It's bad enough losing a child
without being blamed by a so called "expert"for its "murder"and there were quite a few of them all by the same "Expert".only today a baby sitter had her sentence
quashed for alledgedly battering a baby,
it was suffering from a rare disease and she had served half her sentence.and none of them got any compensation
Anyway I do go on don't I Best Wishes George ++++
