my dads ship

Everything is co calm
As we all slowly glide on by
But the end is drawing nearer
Sooner or later he is going to die.

I know we are all doing ok
But I see the end is near
The time is set and counting down
Yet his boat he’s trying to steer.

We all ignore the crash ahead
Instead we look into the past
Of all the wonderful memories
That slowly fade but always last

Such a strong build and structure
He always showed us the way
He always knew the answer
And kept our fears at bay

What I thought was once untouchable
My protector and my dad
Has now lost the ability to control his path
I see no good, just bad.

Everything is so calm and peaceful
But inside we all want to cry
The last shred of hope just slips away
As we watch him silently sail by…

Author notes

i dont know how i did with putting it down on paper, but the image gave me strong feelings. it reminded me of my dad who is batteling pancreatic cancer which it a brutal cancer. he has about 4 months to live, and there is no cure. just like the ship, everything is calm, but there is a huge ending for the ship we are all choosing to ignore. i dont really know how to explain it. but if anyone understands or has been thrugh something of the same, please let me know or any suggestions. thank you for your time and for reading my poem.

You have used the picture as a wonderful metaphor for your father. A very sad, but heartfelt write indeed.
Thank you for your fine entry
