Mourning Understanding

Petals dropped from bleeding hands
upon holy ground,
where death and sorrow always meet.

Did the willow's leaves
not rain like gentle tears
from morning dew?

As the Meadow Lark sang sadness
of summer's passing,
mourning winter's howl of icy chill
rattling deaths call.

Shall I stand frozen now

or fall in silent understanding?

this is amazing!! thanks so much for the entry!

  • What amazing depth of emotion you are able to evoke here. And the final two lines leave us with such a strong question, one that each person must answer for him/herself. Well done, poet.

Wow a soulful lament indeed, powerfully sad. The words simply glide into one another, such a beautiful poem. You have done a wonderful job with this. All the best in the contest

such rich qualities in these verses, profound sense of feelings, and the fallings- petals, willow tears... so very tender and touching; wonderful depth of heartfelt emotions here, and a hard question. Thank you for this fine entry into the contest and best of luck to you in the judging...PK
