Original artwork by Renelle Sommerville (Oil and water)

Hover lover, o’er the water,

Ripples shimmer in the sun.

Date me, mate me for a lifetime,

You, my choice o’er everyone.

Spreading, dreading, times of parting,

Wond’rous wings that let you roam.

Fold them, hold them, I your lover,

Cherish moments when you’re home.

Feathered, weathered, spread for landing,

Widespread wings that lift and soar.

Gliding, hiding from the foxes,

And the ravens, evermore.

Blessed water where he's landing,

My reflection waits for thee.

Is this more that he is seeing,

A picture of myself and he.

Peeking, seeking, life long looking,

What the ripples hide from view.

Wishing, fishing for that fishy,

I’m the perfect fish for you.

Author notes

This is my 16th collaboration with Reni's painting. She's marvelous and I treasure being able to write to her painting - and sometimes she paints to my writing.

Oh what a lovely team you and I make.
I'm glad I can spark inspiration and vice versa, sir. It's always fun and it's lovely anticipating the new poem idea you come up with.

Thanks always for writing and motivating.

This piece lilts and rolls off the tongue in metered excellence and tells a warm hearted tale to compliment the painting well.

    Superb

An extremely fine write. Obviously, imagery, rhythm and rhyme are just fine. I especially enjoyed the marvelous imagery.

I think its cool how you take a painting from a highly talented artist and write poetry to it... i also think its pretty awesome how she paints to some of your poetry... the painting fits the poem well and the poem fits the painting well... awesome job
