Pass a cup of tea, please.

I thought it was my imagination,

or perhaps,

that third cup of coffee.

There they all were seated comfortably,

under a blossoming apple tree.

Obviously conducting  a Spring Tea meeting!

I've never spoken,

squirrel, crow, or raccoon, yet alone butterfly.

Absolutely no denying,

each tender spring creature,

was eagerly complying.

Birds of flight, and itty bitty bugs,

naked to my eyes.

Holding tea cups,

focused on topics,

of planting and dividing,

the bounty of my garden!

What I wouldn't pay,

for notes of that meeting.

It is bitterly true, last year's sweet pea's

RAIDED... by more then a few.

Oh how my eyes grieved,

when raccoons STOLE every last tomato.

You could almost feel the tension,

when the crow cussed and spoke.

The memory of his LOADED cherry beaks

almost made me choke.

Hardly the fellow you would expect to

explain the emphasis of self-control.

Off I do trot to the garden store,

feeling as if......

it is a grocery list I will be fulfilling.

Wisely written, and discussed,

"charity begins in our homes,"

and yes, big sigh...........

even our own garden plots.

Mercy me,

"Pass a cup of tea, please."

Two lumps of sugar,

would be lovely string bean,

thank-you.

Don't forget to plant the raspberries!

Author notes

contest prompt; open to what we are working on presently.

i was gardening this morning, making my list,
and an eerie feeling crept upon me, as I looked up,
garden birds, one squirell peeking from the tree,
as if they were looking over my shoulder,
whispering their grocery list.

I won't even tell you about the slugs..
lest you believe i have truly gone garden insane!
giggle.

I am not much of a gardener and plants kind of really want to run away and hide but I love the beauty of them if you can keep the pest out of your garden. this was truly a great job on this it was wonderful and made me smile. niaish for sharing.

    Another good one.

My daddy used to tell me to plant a row of corn for the squirrels, raccoons and other animals that would wander into the garden. You did a great job on this piece.

I love to garden but the townhouse where we live won't let us plant anything in the yard! So I have to garden in pots on my porches. I love working in the dirt. I love your poem so full of amazing imagery and fun. Thanks for sharing, good luck in the contest my friend Theresa

The way that you worded it made me imagine all the animals of spring just sitting there sipping tea from cups like they were sophisticated people. Love the poem. ~Hihamburger

    Beautiful

This is a beautiful piece so sweet and i loved how you ended with the "Pass a cup of tea"
My only crticism is a spelling correction
They're they were" They're should be 'there'.

    This piece it deliciously innocent.

    Very yummy!

My mom used to tell me that the little animals around us were always talking about her yard. I loved the raccoon and the crow the best. Cute beyond compare.

Hahahahahah. Loved it. It had a sort of 'fairy tale' feel to it, which took it a little bit above a 'normal' write about what was in the garden. The imagery produced by the words was fantastic. Wonderful piece.

    Well done Kathleen
