Breathe.
Just Breathe.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Candy-colored eyes,
glazed over by the inconstancies,
gaze thoughtfully at blank walls.
There the world is played out before me,
there everything makes perfect sense
in the black spaces, in the nothingness.
It is when,
those eyes drift from the perfection
that they recognize the horror of it all.
Screaming children and barking dogs,
burning buildings and crazed neighbors,
who abuse their children and then play nice
just to avoid the cops.
Bloody nightmares, drooping eyelids,
replay the night,
remember why you'll never be whole.
Remember standing in a door way,
the feeling.
No! Don't turn away now you stupid child,
just watch.
Watch as you do nothing,
as you hide in the darkness,
because you are foolish and know not what to do.
You didn't save her,
and now she's broken.
Bound hands and silent sobs,
hissing voices..
Shaking hands, buckled knees,
head flush against porcelain.
Do you remember it now child?
Tear stained faced and those wretched sounds,
do you remember her words?
Do you?!
Remember the way she cried,
the way she put it all away-
Claimed he must love her
if he did something so terrible.
Remember the way you shook
the way you didn't eat for days
all because the next week-
Do you understand that you are worthless?
Because agony, despair,
all those things you always played with,
they do have a face.
You see it every day.
Just Breathe.

Author notes
Yuck? This hit a little too close to 'pity me. I wanna die cause I'm emo' for my liking.
When I was 8 I watched my sister get raped, and yet after the incident, while she was broken- I was in tatters.
I've seen death.
I play poker with him every Tuesday night.

So expressive, like a memory of my own, in many ways. I like this, it's so raw. I kind of felt hollow though, kind of empty and dark.

This is a powerful write. What intensity of emotion and vivid imagery. So dark. Very impressive.
