Death Seals Fate

Although every day your breath came slower and slower,
it seems each one of them took tiny pieces of me away.
Laboured tasks it was for you to awaken each new morn,
and, I shared more of this with you; so often being torn.

Wanting life for you when death had already staked its claim,
how can I keep you with me, with the children, this seems insane.
Nightmarish hardships seem to last all of forever and beyond;
your smile it could not take, and that sparkle of which I'm so fond.

Neglected by all that's good and sane, this illness prolongs/lingers,
robbing so much from you, from me, from us, and our children.
What cost repair? and what number can be dialed to request them?
I needed to request or order an immediate repair for you and him.

For he is second in line to suffer, you brutally snatched from bosom.
His love for you having been just barely reaching proportioned size.
He was only six, but witnessing your demise and subsequent death,
makes for him a sad departure, lonely day, witless Christmas wreath.

Your spirit I witnessed fought tooth and nail, you didn't go quietly,
surprised I was by your staunch stand, like a swimmer's death grip
upon his rescuer, you clung, for all of your girth and your worth.
My life changed when you lost the battle, at which time I lost my mirth.
