Connections

As a young child,
I awoke from a dream
so vividly
I remembered the scene

Another little girl
about the same age
was kicking a ball
in front of the stage

The red ball went
high in the air
right behind it
flying there

was her black
shiny buckled shoe
she laughed
and I did too

That same day
a new girl in school,
introduced me to
deja vu.

We went into the
gym that day
had a red ball
were going to play

Dream flashed
before my eyes
and I begin to realize
I had seen this very
event...this girl..the
ball...I knew how this
went!

Just then she kicked
the ball...
...I had already seen
it all!

It was then
I understood;
I didn't understand
and never would

Is deja vu
a connection
to a dreamed
precognition?

Author notes

I still see this event..it was hard to explain it in poetic form...the girl was new that day...but I know for sure...I dreamed the event...and it was the first experience of deja vu that I remember.

    "déjà vu" or precognitive dream,

the conviction of experience comes through.
Interpretations of dreams have a very long history, as you will know. Shakespeare and the Bible testify to this.
As I followed your short lines down the page (enacting youthful experience), I did not miss the simple but effective rhyme. Indeed, until the final stanza, you manage largely monosyllabic, simple language. This is a true poem because it relates experiential reality without being didactic. Bravo for you.

Well done! Yes that is technically déjà vu, having seen that scene/situation before but it was also a precognitive dream.
We can often view things ahead in dreams or visions under the right conditions (most common are those which warn of things to avoid), but sometimes just as a sign to ourselves that there is more to life - mind, body & spirit - than meets the physical eye

thank you for sharing your experience in verse ... it is not easy to put our visions, feelings and memories into a poem, I agree, but you have done really well ...
I have had several deja vu experiences myself, at the moment they happen, I just know what the other person will do and say before (s)he does it ... it feels strange but normal at the same time, right ?
it feels as if the future has happened in the past ... putting the entire concept of "time" into question ...
