Oh, there you are, you brave hummingbird,
Back from your search of new nectar’s sweet prize?
Had I known where you were, I would have sent word.
You left me just sitting here and waiting, haven’t you heard?
Your wings and your heart just beat a constant surprise.
Oh, there you are, you brave hummingbird.
Put speed in your flight and your colors go blurred,
a jewel in the light as you dart across the skies.
Had I known where you were, I would have sent word.
Fly forwards and backwards or whatever’s preferred,
but mostly I’m just dazzled by your tiny pint-size.
Oh, there you are, you brave hummingbird.
Your twitters and squeaks, sounding somewhat absurd
when delivered with daring and the flash of your eyes.
Had I known where you were, I would have sent word.
So, remember this place and don’t be deterred
by the tempting of others or their sighs and their lies.
Oh, there you are, you brave hummingbird,
Had I known where you were, I would have sent word.

Thank you for your entry
Hummingbirds are a delight to observe. Their wings beat so quickly it is just a blur of colors. My only concern is with the use of the word 'you' I feel it was a bit overdone. I think the poem would benefit from some trimming of the word. Otherwise a delight to read. I like how you made use of Onomatopoeia, words that imitate the sound they make.
You did wonderfully on the particulars of the form and your rhyme scheme was quite nice. Thank you for taking the time to enter my contest.
I encourage you to keep writing to read and comment.
God Bless
