Evicted

Empty house exhausted of happy sounds.
Broken windows allow nature’s entry.
Tall grasses and weeds dominate the grounds.
Tire swing dangles from leafless oak tree.
The song of crickets lone harmony abounds.
On the porch lays a useless rusted key.
A sign is nailed onto the boarded door.
Condemned. No trespassing. Enter no more.

A child’s doll head lays amongst the clutter.
Chipped yellow paint clinging to graying boards.
A torn softball caught in weathered gutter.
Remnants of a garden still holds fall gourds.
Against a shed rests forgotten putter.
Battered wooden fence, misaligned and scored.
Weaving ivy covers dark stones, constricted.
Solemn silence, eyes weep, the evicted.

I'm sure we'll see more housing evictions as our current government continues to turn a deaf ear to the problem.

    SO SAD

Oh Charley, this is so sad, but it happens to alot of people. You are so right saying how our current government likes to turn a deaf ear to this problem.I think it happens like this all over the world.Your poem is full of sadness but its a reality and that's why it tugs at the heart of the reader. Little bits of scattered memories laying around it . . . you've painted the desolate scene very well, using one of my favorite forms. The image of the doll's head was particularly poignant for me.

    Well done, ck

Governments at times do shoulder the blame
Tenants abuse property just the same

A potent piece that gently yet strongly illuminates this awful problem that is happening here in the UK as well - not much to be said for our Global Village anymore! All the "suits" in government are acting powerless. Great stuff.

Powerful imagery in this piece. The descriptions seemed to display a loss of life. It's sad when people are evicted, even if it's because they haven't paid rent or taxes or whatever the case may be, it's still sad to see some people out on the street when they should have a roof over their heads for shelter. Thanks for sharing and keep writing.
