It Was Just A Job

Missing image
Thirteen years of my loyalty,
and missed nary one day.
While they achieved royalty,
I received my meager pay.

My tenure provided leverage,
they were to blind to see.
Assured by each adult beverage,
they were done without me.

The first thing Monday morning,
I decided I was over this.
Made demands without warning,
gave them a butt to kiss.

Oh shit!, not what I had desired,
a pink slip said I had been fired.

Option #3
I have to believe the most common mistake people make concerning their job is the effect their absence will have. Most of us have atleast tested this theory!

Hmmm . . . I enjoyed this piece, but I did ask for no swearing. To humor my delicate sensibilities, would you bleep the word for the duration of the contest? I'd appreciate it. Wonderful rhythm, and it did make me laugh. Thanks so much for entering my contest!

Good write and very sad, but true. My last job I got fired for being too slow. It's one of those food court places and the customers like speed of service and all that jazz and I wasn't good at it at all as far as speed goes. I wish I could find a job for slow people, but so far in life I haven't had much luck.

    Good luck in the contest.

here you again with your sense of humor. though its not really funny when it occurs. but this is definitely a great poem.. there is so much truth within this, I've had some jobs that I have told me bosses.... I'll leave it that alone. excellent job, love the picture

That certainly backfired! It is a shame that we are more noticed for what we don't do than what we do. Good luck in the contest! I can think of a few experiences like that I had myself, that were similar to this. Hmmm...you may have inspired me to write something about it. lol's

Yes, we can be replaced, and are, even if we think they cannot do without us! LOL Liked the rhythm rhyme and flow in these lines. Easy to read and understand. Cute graphic used for this contest as well.

Oh wow. This is very true. I love the graphic at the top, it's very fitting. The ending made me giggle a bit, and I personally thank you for the slight bit of humor found in the poem. Good luck to you in the contest.

I like this alot. I think you're right. Most employers don't care whether or not you're there, as long as they're getting the job done that they want done and they can usually find someone to replace you if you do make demands. Keep up the good work.
