Would To God.

Would To God that this good earth should yield one such as this.
The evil that sprang forth to drink upon the blood of those that he has valued as worthless.
In the stillness of distant thunder he choose to hide in his caves while sending his minions to fly into buildings.
Others go forth in protest over the soiling of our flag with their hatred for all.
There are those blinded by the spew from his venom that say we should make friends with him.
Oh but do they not know that those who have carried our flag know that it is their blood that will be spilled first.
So does the earth take back this devil dust or does it compensate by molding a clay of another.
In the early morning the soldier rises from what the good earth proclaims as its own.
Perhaps the distant thunder will bring forth the news of another who has died for this our freedom.
But when one views the soil to which it returns one sees the flowers instead of the weeds.
Would to God but I can only water those flowers with tears of
gratitude.
For the weeds are Osama Bin Laden and the flowers are ones
like Jonathan Yale.

Author notes

A young soldier from our area was killed Thursday in Iraq. As you can tell this piece is about the evil that makes for wars. Whether you agree or not.

    Congrats on the bronze!

A sad yet wonderfully penned piece. There are never any winners in a war. Congrats on the bronze, a much deserved trophy

Well to be honest I had a bit of a hard time following your thoughts the way this was written but after I read the last line, I googled Johnathan Yale and read about him and Lance Cpl Haerter who gave their lives to save 33 U.S. Marines and 21 Iraqi Police and then your Poem made perfect sense. Thank you for recognizing the flowers of America. Thanks for your entry and good luck in the contest.

    I hear you

I can never understand why when a country knows of the leader as a violent leader that feeds on destruction and yet does nothing about it . I fear for this country as all the gangs and the drugs seems to be slipping in morew and more everyday .They do nothing about the gangs and they know they are for violence yet do nothing to diband then ..Gangs are the terrorists of our time and country and they are right here building every day. I ask does God see the gang member who does drive by shooting any different than ben lawdens people I say no the only difference is the size of destruction and killings .I say we need to bring our guys home and get our borders properly protected and bring our economy back into order and our people taken care of and once we bring our home into harmony again and get our strength back we shall see our people more into helping and bring families back to light. Very good write you have here
