I remember standing in the kitchen
Stretching on the very top of my tiptoes...
Just to see what you were doing on the countertop.
I remember that old blue spin-chair...
And the way you used to rock me, hold me
when I would cry, when my world was crashing around me.
I remember your hands, wrinkled but strong.
You were never afraid to get your hands dirty,
be it working in the yard or in your flowers.
I remember those nights, when I'd be scared.
The thunder and lightning would crash all around me,
but I'd be snuggled up tight between you and Dad.
I remember being a teenager, and the fights that seemed unending.
I hated fighting with you, but I did it anyway.
I made your life so hard, but you loved me in spite of myself.
I remember the day I went to college, three states away.
I remember knowing things might never be the same,
but that I'd always have a home to come to.
I remember my wedding day, you were more of a mess than me!
You made yourself busy, organizing pictures, hotel rooms,
and even complaining, most memorably, about the ribbons!
But what strikes my memory most, is your love for God.
The way you lead me to Jesus, and fostered my faith.
You have shaped me...and made me...who I am today.
And I just want to say, Thanks.
I love you!
