Flies in the Ointment

Missing image

So I went into town to grab some lunch today.
Just minding my own business, which is my way,
When some guy with a fold out desk yelled, "Hey!
Come over here and sign this petition, okay?"

The petition read our country had been hijacked
And that on 9/11, the U.S. wasn't really attacked
And the president actually orchestrated that act
And all of this was presented as if it were fact.

As I read, the wild-eyed man never stopped talking
But I refused to swallow all the crap he was hocking.
He seemed to feed on all the pedestrians gawking
And looked very angry, like a Steppenwolf stalking.

I said, "Man, give me a break.  I've heard that filthy lie;
That our government knew thousands were going to die
And did nothing as those planes ripped through the sky.
You're a damn fool, my friend. I'm outta here. Goodbye."

So I walked away, leaving his idiotic petition unsigned.
He yelled, "You idiot! You should try using your mind."
I yelled back, "I'm tired of seeing my country undermined
By ungrateful, lazy scumbags like you and your kind."

JFK once said, "Ask not what your country can do for you
But what you can do for your country" and it's still true.
And JFK was a liberal! A Democrat through and through!
He'd be heartbroken today to see what some Democrats do.

Somehow, it's become simple-minded to be patriotic
And supporting our President is almost psychotic.
In fact, they accuse him of being mad and despotic.
It seems like they're all on some kind of narcotic.

I'm not saying that we should surrender free thought.
I'm just saying not everything is a conspiracy plot!
There are madmen in this world and they MUST be fought
Or we'll repeat the lessons that history already taught.

You did it again. Took a serious subject and explored it in a light way, or maybe not so light.
Not my place to comment about democrats or republicans, I'm a Green (one of the zillion politic parties here in Belgium).
Still think that everyone is entitled to have whatever opinion they want.
Ah, and that at the end, most of politicians suck

You did express your thoughts very well my friend, as usual

You got down the mean and harsh part but forgot the funny. Also, how it's written, the way you displayed your thoughts and opinions, wasn't exactly what I was looking for.

I've really nothing else much to say because if I did say anything about this poem.. it'd end up regretful.

Thanks anyway for taking the time to enter. I do appreciate it.

OOOOh you hit a bit of a nerve for me, you're definitely making it sound like you think that all democrats are conspiracy nuts. That's simply not true, though the conspiracy nuts tend to be democrats, democrats don't tend to be conspiracy nuts.

I have nothing but disdain for the people that sit around and push their ideas like that, that said there is a little bit of truth hidden amongst their paranoid lies.

A couple of government organizations caught wind of the impending attacks and choose not to act on it. It's not a conspiracy, it's just incompetance... This is one of the big reasons why I aspire to the FBI, so that I can stand a chance of catching some other serious screw up and saving thousands of lives.

Anyways... good work on this poem, it's a great little vignette.

This is absolutely true. The conspiricy 'experts', those who see in the government every evil are very easy to find. They are outside the law, smoking weed, doing drugs, afraid of a DUI, they become paranoid and that leads over time, in a drugged mind, to hate, fear, depression, and feelings of oppression. "Why do I have to conform to your laws?" "I'm doing no one any harm!", and so on. This fear leads them to begin imagining that the people who regulate them and their drugged out lives are only slave masters and despots who wish only to keep them from their drugged existance. In prison, they conspire together, they communicate their hate of their government wishing for a 60's style revolution where a drugged out overlord takes the Presidency and allows them to live in riches by taxing the rest of us to "care" for them and their drug use.

Did that really happen? I can't believe they were asking you to sign a petition. Idiots! It makes you quite angry doesn't it, that there are idiots like that in the world.
