her heart's internal shadow.
A long forgotten answer
swallowed by suffocating obscurity.
Tentative fingers seek enlightenment where eyes fail;
they slide across the smooth then jagged edges,
groping any solidarity that she finds
along the wall.
Fear erupts at soft movement,
alien echoes that scratch
from behind.
Her heart beats denial;
inner demons chocking out
a stuttering, stammer of
adrenal trepidation.
Forgiveness but a murmur in the distance.
Panicked rush through the airless void
as stalagmites whisper pain upon her skin.
Lost in this suffocating obscurity,
frantic for the illusive light.
A glimmer breaks on her horizon;
a beacon in the dark.
Eye-flutter flickers of welcome light
pierce eyes now open.
A future gleams ahead.
She sighs a swift departure
as darkness melts from her skin.
