How can I thank these men,
Who now lie dead on foreighn fields?
How I can I express my grattitude
To soldiers from so far away?
My island nation faced destruction
We where alone yet unafraid,
For help came from across the seas
These brave soldiers answered our call
From Australia they came
From New Zealand they came,
From Canada they came
They stood with us as Brothers
This was not their fight
But they still fought,
This was not their war
But they still died
Through their sacrifice I may live
My nation is still free,
I can hold my head up high
Because of their boundless courage
I am British and proud of my heritage
Yet I will never forget this debt,
That I owe everything I hold dear
To those who came to our aid.
Who now lie dead on foreighn fields?
How I can I express my grattitude
To soldiers from so far away?
My island nation faced destruction
We where alone yet unafraid,
For help came from across the seas
These brave soldiers answered our call
From Australia they came
From New Zealand they came,
From Canada they came
They stood with us as Brothers
This was not their fight
But they still fought,
This was not their war
But they still died
Through their sacrifice I may live
My nation is still free,
I can hold my head up high
Because of their boundless courage
I am British and proud of my heritage
Yet I will never forget this debt,
That I owe everything I hold dear
To those who came to our aid.
Author notes
In two world wars the name ANZAC has come to represent courage, tenacity, comardeship and loyalty. From Suvla bay to the town of tobruk, ANZAC troops have refused to bow down to adversity and have shown the willingness to face any odds, even if they prove impossible to overcome. We in britain owe these soldiers a debt that can never be repaid. I picked option 1 and my username is wolfpoet.
