sweet kisses
inside of a flower
he hums
a cricket wing's song
made of metallic hues

so i guess the bird was not a budgie then
i like some birds, but others just hum, they need a bird bath.

those would be pigeons, they just mess my window, always leaving their dirty behind...good thing they aren't big as albatrosses though

What a great job you did with this beauty. So few words. I read it as a tanka, hope that is what it is. Your pivot line works perfectly. Well done.
I lived in Texas for six years and during that time I visited the Gulf of Mexico near Corpus Christi. I loved to visit a little town named Rockport, where they would have a hummingbird festival every year. One of my favorite parts of the festival was to travel to different homes that were set up specifically for the migrating hummingbirds in and around September. One house in particular had over 50 feeders and beautiful trumpet like flowers to nourish the birds. At any given time you could see the birds feasting on the nectar and during peak migration time you could see over a hundred at a time. There was a picnic table with binoculars (not that they were needed), photos of different hummingbirds (so you can identify them), snacks and coffee. You would think that they would have plenty of food, but the little rascals would fight over two or three feeders.

I was reading in a book about hummingbirds that supposedly they hum because they don't know the words....
just testing to see if I can applaud again.

Sometimes the most welcome sight of a day, hummingbird come to fed on a trumpet flower hovering still then flashing red or green and away; but telling us that summer is a time forgathering the sweetness of life...wonderful words here...h

I like to put nectar out for the hummingbirds, just to watch them buzz about...I used to always get stung, then someone told me they weren't hummingbirds, but bumblebees.

LOL, they are tiny but not THAT tiny!

I agree with myself! I wonder what hunningbird tastes like? I suppose I'd need about 30 to fill me up.

if I knew how to do it, you'd get an angry face --

Well I never knew that a male hummingbird made that sound, I have learned something new...which isn't hard since I don't know anything.
Aren't they cute, and I can just see one fluttering, sucking at some nectar happily humming away.
Very cute poem!
