[ most people take for granted the love that they show ]

most people take for granted the love that they show
they show anywhere and everywhere they go
what they don't realize is that i'm very jealous
i wish every morning that i could be so over zealous
for you see my family would me abandone if they knew
that their dear dear boy liked other boys, yes its true
i can't love whom i wish for you see it is a "sin"
but i was told to love all so will i ever win?
i hope to some day love freely as all these others do
in a world where all love is accepted and all love true.

FABULOUS! And I don't use that word often, so you know I mean it ;-) This has a really raw and real vibe to it. And I totally understand what this feeling is like. My dad died when I was 15, and things have gotten a little easier, but for the longest time, my family was weird and distant toward me because I'm gay. But, I refused to hide who I am and trudged on, and in the end, I'm glad I did. I hope things get easier for you soon :-)

Your title is achingly apt. Indeed heterosexuals take for granted their liberty to show affection publicly, being able to walk hand in hand, the kiss upon greeting and goodbye etcetera, even the slow dance at the club on a Saturday night...
NB typo abandone/abandon and re presentation, perhaps consider leaving a space between the last line of the poem and the poem page? The space allows the reader to linger longer on the content before the comment box.
With just ten lines you portray the sadness of the situation as is, I particularly liked the repetition of dear, dear boy, and I echo the mandate of the poem, I hope too that society sees that love is love whether heterosexual or homosexual and I hope that above all else your parents can learn to accept you as a person and not an orientation, after all, you love them for who they are regardless of their orientation.
Some see two men loving each other as unnatural, yet do not find it unnatural when one man takes another mans life, I would rather men were loving each other than killing each other. End of rambling

I figure I owed you another look see since I didn't get your poem you wrote for my contest...so here I am and so glad I did!

This is one of the most beautiful and heartfelt poems I have ever read!

"i can't love whom i wish for you see it is a "sin"
but i was told to love all so will i ever win?"

No one is to judge someone else...if all the one's who quote the bible to others they need to make sure they know what God was about...and love is his gift to us!

    Great job and keep writing

Aw, that's a really touching poem. I am sorry you have to go through that, its hard especially when it's family. I hope one day things get better and maybe the blind will open their eyes.

    I see a little type-out on morning.

Other than that, it's great. Thank you for entering!
