The Words Beneath the Words

The hardest task
To complete with ease
Is to try and define oneself
And make it real and true.

For how can we think of
Creative ways to depict who we are
When we ourselves do not even know
The true people we are inside.

Maybe this ranting of mindless thoughts
Is the only real way to describe myself,
For God knows if we attempt to do so,
We will be lying to you and to ourselves.

The greatest thing that people fear
Is the realization of their true selves,
They spend all of their energy disguising what's real
And those walls cannot be broken down by a mere poetry prompt.

So tumble down, oh mighty wall, for you are needed no more,
But when you fall and crumble into piles of dust and stone,
Please block out the sun shining light on my self
So that the shadows may once again provide me sanctuary.

The miraculous self-discovery that found its way to this page
Is that Hemingway's iceburg theory of writing was correct:
The true importance of any piece is the words beneath the words.
These hidden words contain in the shadows the solution
To the puzzle that is "I."

Author notes

I'm in a point of self-discovery and can find no better way to express who I really am than to just write like there is no tomorrow and change not a single thing. That way, I know that everything I have written is the epitome of the real me.

This reminds me of the one I just wrote. And I can't even remember what I decided to call it. Wow. Dumb. But great write once again. I need to find a new word to overuse. "Great" must be getting boring to read again and again and again. Sorry.
