Creativity is the gift of darkness

If the presentation of a delicate flower
uproots thoughts only of desire, growth, beauty
and peace, you have been blinded;
Blindly suffocated; Without the gift
of darkness behind your eyes
you cannot see the sharp hints of dirt
and raw earth which signal frailty and greed,
outlined in jealousy and soaking in rage.

If the waves in the ocean sing to you
songs of gentle tranquility and maiden voyages
you are lost, on an island of ridiculous contentment
/betrayed/ without the grace of feeling small
beneath tidal suffocation and tall storms,
and vicious creatures hungrily waiting
for a soul who believes in safety.

If a cloud-white paper lies limp in your hand,
you see possibility and promise, messages and sonnets;
but until the words scream into your mind
forcing your fingers to find the ink
with which to cry the poems onto the page,
you are denied the creativity
which rains down into the fields,
the oceans, the soil, and the damaged souls.

    Good Poem

    It had so many metaphores and similies, my favorite seasonings for spicing poems' flavors.
    I don't understand the part "/betrayed/ without the grace...." What do the / marks mean?
    Anyhow, appart from that, the poem was great. Good job in contest.
