hands enfolded neatly,
she sits with her head bowed low
for this is the only way
she knows how to pray
all is quiet in the world
and she wonders if anyone is
listening, if what she has to say
will reach the omnipresent ears
of something she can't see
but feels with each fiber of her being
the air hangs around her
lost in prayer, touching
each part of her soul that needs
strength to continue on
she is not alone
this is the only way she knows
to communicate with the one
who made her hair brown
and her smile crease her eyes
to give thanks or cry out for help
because she believes
someone is listening,
even if they remain silent.
Author notes
i've been putting a lot of thought into prayer lately. it is amazing when you think about it.
