I woke up this morning only to find,
the love of my life was slowly dying.
From deep within me, a feeling of hate,
I'll kill those humans, they think they're so great.
A howl sends forth my mornful call,
I look up to feel the immortal rain fall.
Sick in all my anger and pain,
I looked at my love and whimpered her name.
I can't do a thing, I'm helpless and weak,
to stay with her forever, so suave and so meak.
She didn't deserve this, she held our young,
I lifted my head in one final song.
Author notes
This is how I feel when I see an animal that's dead. It makes me sick to see what humans have done.

I assume you have written this poem from the perspective of a male talking about his mate, I can picture a wolf or fox crying to the moon over his loss. It is a beautiful poem, full of feeling and imagery. Well done.
All the best in the contest...Sue

Awesome work, such a sad and harsh subject foundation. You brought the emotions to life with subtle yet intrinsic vocabulary. Thanks for the great read.

So sad and so beautiful this write
We had a collie when I was growing up and that collie protected us kids in so many ways .We lived by a river and my mom told me at times that the collie would grab our clothes and pull us back from certain areas to keep us from harm . One day a bunch of kids were out to no good and they shot her like a drive by . We heard the shots and ran out and down the lane to the road and there was our loving pet . We never found the ones who shot her and it was a cruel and hateful thing they had done . I cry today when I think about it the dogs name was Sarge

its so awesome -
this quite somber. you do have a typo. "did'nt" should be "didn't". you have penned this well, the emotion and the pain it has brought.
