Knocking

They say that Robert Frost wrote a poem
about the cathedral on UMass's campus,
What the fuck --
no religion anymore; doors immobile and
maybe pews, guts ripped out and
maybe now offices to profit on the scholar.
I wouldnt know. The doors are always locked.
Jesus would flip a shit or
maybe roll out of a grave and down
North Pleasant St,
drink a few beers,
and stuff his holy self on Antonio's
(Rung dry and dirt poor --
he'd learn the new gospel of getting by).
But staring at the church facade
waiting for a poem,
I'd like to ask Robert Frost
what inspiration seeps from an office for God?
I came knocking
and no one answered.

Please tell me what you think

"the doors are always locked." i think for me that line really encompasses my view on modern religion. show me a world where religion is a moral compass, and not a sceptor to lord above others.

i love the lines beginning with "Jesus would flip a shit"
it's vile and debasing, and it gets the reader angry and opens the door to controvery. the imagery which follows is fantastic.

the "new Gospel" really is just getting by. passing ourselves off for devout, when in reality that word strikes up little more than the image of that crazy cult in Texas which has been in the news as of late. When will we get it right?

"an office for God" --> what a great way to express the detachment and business-like manner in which we make religion into a political tool for gaining connections.

this poem is a fantastic foil to the poem to which it refers. thanks for writing, i really enjoyed.
