Being English.

St George's Day is here again,
let's fly our flag with pride.
To be English is an honour
and not something we should hide.

St George's Day should be a time,
for celebration in our land.
Long live our English values,
forever may they stand.

St George's Day is here again.
let's fly his flag on high.
Have the right to say we're "English"
on our passports when we fly.

St George's Day is here again;
let our hearts, now swell with pride.
All nationalities are welcome here,
just don't take us for a ride.

St George's Day should be the day,
to put this government to shame.
For scrapping our identity;
PC correctness is to blame.

St George's Day is here again,
patriotic cheers should pass our lips.
In praise of our great heritage,
like Yorkshire pud and fish 'n chips!

  • To be so English is not acceptable these days. It could be considered racist in some quarters. You would have loved the drive from Belfast airport to Derry (londonderry) in July. It was like driving under a canopy of Union flags. Were they trying to make a statement? There`s no need to be paranoid about it.
    What`s your BNP number?

      Hello William, I'm far from being a racist and do not support any extreme political party, but see nothing wrong in proclaiming my pride in being English. After all the Irish are Irish, the Scottish are Scottish and the Welsh are Welsh and continually blowing their own trumpets, so why shouldn't the English? (probably if we all checked back in our family trees we'd find we were all a mixture anyway) This poem was written with tongue very firmly in cheek!!
