Now here’s a game that we can play
So listen to me well
And we can play it everyday
As far as I can tell
Now clap your hands and turn around
Jump up real high and hit the ground
Now clap your hands
Now clap your hands
And try to make a whistle sound

Now here’s a game that we can play
I promise we’ll have fun
Just look at me, do what I say
Get off the ground and run
Now stop right there and clap your hands
Just follow all of my commands
Now stop right there
Now stop right there
I’m taking you to magic lands

Now here’s a game that we can play
I’m still the leader here
So flap your arms and fly away
I hope that I am clear
Now be a bird that’s in the air
And you can fly most everywhere
Now be a bird
Now be a bird
Now you’re the leader so it’s fair

Author notes

Trijan Refrain
The Trijan Refrain, created by Jan Turner, consists of three 9-line stanzas, for a total of 27 lines. Line 1 is the same in all three stanzas, although a variation of the form is not to repeat the same line at the beginning of each stanza. In other words, the beginning line of each stanza can be different. The first four syllables of line 5 in each stanza are repeated as the double-refrain for lines 7 and 8. The Trijan Refrain is a rhyming poem with a set meter and rhyme scheme as follows:

Rhyme scheme: a/b/a/b/c/c/d,d refrain of first 4 words of line five /c

I have played games like this with kids. I will do "follow the leader" We will march like a robot, crawl on the floor, skip, fly like a bird... Kids love it. Enjoyable piece.

Wonderful! A rhyme good for chanting while the game is being played. Like something to sing while jumping rope. You do it so well!

this is one piece that I truly enjoy. the innocence of children is something that is being stripped from them far too fast. I am so glad to see a version of following the leader in verse. Great job. However, you did not put in "I understand" to show that you have read the rules. Please correct this as soon as possible.
