Unimaginable Terror

Lost in the darkness,
Helpless and alone;
Their faces twirl around you,
Taunting,
Laughing.

It’s like a twisted side of Winne the Pooh;
With their faces contorted into horrific monsters.
They chase you,
And you run;
Screaming,
But cannot wake up.

You’re helpless.
Your legs don’t move,
And your mind won’t listen.

WAKE UP!
It’s shrieking.
No matter how hard you try,
It’s impossible.

Tossing and turning,
Screaming your head clear off in real life,
It carries over to your waking life.
Somehow they’re connected.
Though no one knows why.

Author notes

I used to get night terrors, and somewhat still remember them. They were so horrible… I can’t imagine what would make an infants mind think of things like that. Could it be how helpless they feel? That they can’t do anything on their own, and the world is so big and scary? If only we knew…

  • My daughter used to have night terrors so badly that when we touched her to console her she would twist and scream and her heart would beat so fast. When i spoke to her doctor about it I was told not to touch but to speak calmly and reassuringly to her and to wait for it to end. It was so hard. But she has not had one in a long while.
