My traveling lady stay with me
And spent the night 'til dawn
I'm your way station as you fly
A little shelter from the storm
I may not be your lover
As I worship from afar
And though I was wounded as a soldier
When we fought the mighty czar
I was way above my station
When you caught my eye
Her hair as I remember
Was coiffered and powdered white
She wore her pride and honour
That outshone all the palace lights
And I'd heard she always slept in silk
Of palest damask and rose
And bathed each day in honeyed milk
Wearing attar beneath her clothes
So why are you so quiet now?
My lady of Auvergne
Your carriage awaits to take you home
To the courtesans awaiting
My traveling lady stay with me
And spent the night 'til dawn
I'm your way station as you fly
I may not be your lover
As I worship from afar...
