Mistress Honesty

Mistress Honesty

proffers shiny crowns of gold

for the poor.

When the poor become richer

they lust

after crowns of gold,

forsaking that diadem of

Mistress Honesty.

So much truth in so few lines..and a marvelous take on the prompt quote! I love the way the poem 'turns' on itself, using similar or exact words to do so. That gives it a Palindrome feeling, without actually being one.

I love this poem -- it easily manages the split between simplicity and depth. I can't quite nail it down, but did you use any specific form for it? If not, well, all the better

The formal aspects aside, just how true is that! Mistress Honesty doesn't appear to be a lady dear to the heart of many, and neither are the gifts she gracefully bestows upon us. Well said and perfectly penned, I'm glad I came across this one!

    All the best,

    Anna

Willianm Shakespeare was a wise man far ahead of his time. Honesty goes out the door when it comes to money and greed.

      Thank you.

It is true even if you are a politician.
