As Reasons unfold

There was still a chill in the air as Easter Sunday services let out. Neil and I talked of how cool it was for Easter on our walk to the car, but also of how it was starting to get a little warmer. And soon we would be able to take our walks outside. Our ride home that day was not a normal one. Just a few blocks from the Church the car broke down. After trying to restart it several times, I realized that it was time to push it out of the intersection. So I backed it into a parking lot. My head shaking in disbelief, I told Neil that it was a good thing it broke down where it did, because we were only a few blocks away from Michelle’s house. Michelle is Neil’s house manager. So we had our ‘outside’ walk after all. Being it was a little on the cool side, and we were dressed in our Sunday best, it was a quick walk. Michelle’s husband Mike took us to Neil’s house, where we remained safe and sound for the rest of the day.

As Neil was saying his prayers later that day, he thanked God for my car breaking down. I shook my head and thought it was an odd thing to be thankful for. Neil’s prayers don’t always make sense, but usually follow through in one way or another.

I knew without transportation that I couldn’t make it to work, so I called and found people to work for me. I told Neil that I would be off for a couple of days and that I would be back as soon as my car was running.

When I got home that night, I told my husband, Ken, about Neil’s prayer. Ken knows Neil and wasn’t too surprised. So my unscheduled vacation started off quite normally. Stranded at home with my guy, what could be better?

With time off and the weather turning ever so slightly to the fair side, Ken and I decided it was time to work in the yard and garden. So my spring break was looking more like a working vacation. But that was good, we do enjoy yard work. During the yard work I notice how the siding on the house was needing to be washed. And what better time since I had a few days off. So I started washing the siding. Everything was going along fine, until, UNTIL. Seems like there is always an UNTIL. Until the wiring leading in from the electric meter started to smoke, and sizzle. Ken was in the house. I ran in yelling for him to come quick. To make a long story short, we did get the problem fixed. Ken is quite good with problems, not as frantic about them as I seem to get.

The reason for this story is: Without my car breaking down, I would not have had time off and I would not have washed the siding for another month or two.  And I would not have seen that the wiring was in such bad shape. I do believe that the house would have caught fire if a heavy rain had started the sizzling.

So Neil Baughman, never again will I shake my head at the reason for your prayers. I will wait for the reason to unfold.

    Wow!

Something my mother always says to me "Everything happens for a reason. It (the reason) is not always clear, and we may have questions, but we get the answers in due time."
There, quite clearly, was your answer dear lady. Wonderful story. I feel that if everyone had the perception in life, on life, that you have, we would all be better writers. This story is not only amazing because it is true, but it shows us that things really do happen for a reason. It is also amazingly well written. Good job, great write!
