When The Kitchen Comes Alive

Snuggled warm in bed in the dark of night,
strange sounds are heard coming from the kitchen.
Turning every light on in a mad dash,
hearing giggling and laughing children.

To my surprise the kitchen came alive,
rubbing my eyes in total amazement,
forks and knives dance holding each other close
to the music of blender on puree.

Silver ladle swoons crystal gravy boat,
cork screw's having his way with wine bottle,
fresh fruit is being caressed by whipped cream
and the fridge is tossing milk everywhere.

The toaster is threatening loaf-of-bread,
"you keep this up you're going to be toast."
Parring knife makes unwanted advances,
potato weeps with onion and carrot.

Oven keeps yelling "it's not my fault!"
Hot dog is in cahoots with can-o-beans
and hamburger is in love with pickle.
Garbage disposal eats the evidence.

Saving the mess for morning I retired,
I can hear the fridge and freezer talking.
The fridge says to freezer,"wow he's real cool".
The freezer replies, "he's as cold as ice".

Blender now playing a different tune,
as I hear "When The Saints Come Marching In".
Oven said "boy was that guy really hot".
Toaster agreed and replied "really burnt".

All the utensils could clearly be heard
"he'll keep us separated for sure now."
Dishwasher said "things will be very clean
you'll see.  We've been here this long already."
