Has the price of tobacco gone down?
What with the Earth smoking.
Such a bad habit,
to need that fix
across her lungs.
Doing my part, recycling brown
to save the green from choking.
The spices grew rampant
on edging bricks,
since watered young.
Making the effort to educate goats
with neighborhood collections.
Tab cans claim more
then just one calorie.
Hope in tin piles.
Five cents for the shelter homes,
not to mention the reflections
of orphan doors
filled with galleries
of children's smiles.
Also the Grand Marshall, elected,
of Arbor Day Parade.
Planting pines,
laborious breathing,
Co2 feeding tree.
Knowing it won't be neglected
when campers seek the shade.
With barked spine
it holds the heaving
spines of trail-weary.
State senator not quite a forester,
locked in varnished mahogany.
Ears should burn
from embarrassment
when told of Arctic thaw.
As for the Earth, I need more of her.
Hard to view the lobotomy
that we spurn
for fear of harassment
from leniant laws.

As smooth as the varnished mahogany itself, this piece of poetry impresses me, your usage of metaphor and in revealing truisms means that this could never be described as a rant, I smiled at the hope in tins and the mention of the one calorie, indeed the majority are concentrating on the wrong kind of energy expended and consumed via kilojoules and mithering re their weight when they negate the natural reserves of the actual tin/the body of the earth, I am not saying what I wish I could, so will stop rambling and simply say Bravo!

A Zinger on Humans
Phrases that zing...
"Also the Grand Marshall, elected,
of Arbor Day Parade.
Planting pines,
laborious breathing,
Co2 feeding tree."
"State senator not quite a forester,
locked in varnished mahogany.
Ears should burn
from embarrassment"
I agree with Skip Slidin on the style...
thanks for entering and good luck -
LOL
I don't think you need any tips from me. You seem to have done very well with this.
Good luck in the contest.

This is really amazing.

Intersting style of writting - I like it. Very important message here, which I agree with... we live in a very hypocritical society I think. Good take on the prompt. Good luck in the contest.
