I departed the land of the living
Now I linger in the land of the dead
But the dead are not forgiving
And I feel the coming dread
Death does not free
Life does not enslave
Death opens the eyes to see
That life is all we should crave
I meander amongst the fields
Like a stream flowing in the midst
Why do I persist here?
Why must I exist?
I have no further purpose
To flow amongst these lands
I must flow away from all this
To the banks where happiness stands
Now another death is upon us
As a man falls from the earth
And this eternal purgatory for a soul lusts
For it shall never feel mirth

I kind of thought of the River Styx when I read this.
Love the imagery you used to convey your message. The overall poem was very well thought out and I can tell you put your heart into it. It was short and simple, but oh so sweet!
Great job!
Good luck!
Sincerely,

Good imagery in this poem, and Good job keeping the flow flowing throughout the whole poem. I like the questions too... it provokes the readers thoughts while reading this. The one thing about this poem is that it doesn't really follow the contest prompt in the need to escape the afterlife. Thank you for entering my contest though, and keep writing!!
