We gathered together and scattered the ashes,
describing the universe in a paper cup
Outside, the streets are filled with life
Away from the people, we wander endlessly
The sky falls from lips of ghosts
We're trying to feel comfortable
with the end of the world
we are all finally the same
And we're collecting pennies
counting the stories of the universe
Our minds populated by a thousand songs
a thousand memories of a thousand souls
and we'll cry and someday maybe
we'll miss seeing the moon
Two rivers join at the edge of a soul
the empty bottles are like bled corpses
and we thought New Orleans was a place to hide
from piles of atomic bombs
In tiny rooms, we care for rats
that's all we have in dark halls
We smoke cigars, held like crucifixes
dwelling in the last man's cave
And we're collecting pennies
counting the stories of the universe
Our minds populated by a thousand songs
a thousand memories of a thousand souls
and we'll cry and someday maybe
we'll miss seeing the moon
Oh maybe we'll miss seeing the moon
divided, we'll cut open the sky
and listen to the music of falling stars
and hear the tragedy in the wind
or maybe we'll just sit on a window sill
counting blessings and listening to the radio
the pretty girl beside cheap dreams and beer
down there feeling good
And we're collecting pennies
counting the stories of the universe
Our minds populated by a thousand songs
a thousand memories of a thousand souls
and we'll cry and someday maybe
we'll miss seeing the moon
