Went to the Redlands, down Silver Palm Road;
passed the corn fields and tropical nurseries,
places selling orchids, key lime trees.
Sensed I was lost, got directions, drove
some more; past farm stands, strawberries,
the vendors of coco frio, and watermelon.
Til I reached my destination; across
from the church I rested, stretched
along a narrow wood bench
Beneath the wide spread arms of a Kohala tree,
low branches shading me, breeze blowing
across my body, barely a soul to see
Birds serenading; for refreshment nature offered
the sweetest things one could ever taste,
next to love.
Fruits fresh from the Everglades tree,
tiny wild tomatoes; and more tart,
though still a treat, ripe mulberries.
Then, I listened in rapture for
the remainder of the afternoon as a
guide escorted us through this world
Of passionfruit, guava trees, 'foreign' things
that elephants and giraffes would eat;
akee, the fried egg tree.
We paused to touch the oil palm,
elderberry; inhaled scents
of bay rum, thai basil.
Strolled through the bamboo grove;
hugged the giant baobab tree
for luck as told.
After tasting starfruit, Surinam cherries,
nasturtium; this had to be Eden
I was certain.

After a while, I get tangled up with the rhyming
and it drives me crazy, lol.
