In the darkness

In the darkness is where I found him,
In the light is where I lost him.
I thought I would die,
Then someone new came along a year later.

I was scared to love again,
Scared to get hurt.
What should I do?
This is the advice I got:

"Live life, don't be afraid,
You will always have someone to lean on if it all goes wrong."
I asked who,
He said "Me."

After 2 years of being with the new guy,
I was alone again.
I cried for hours.
He was there for me, my best friend.

I thought that I would never find my true love,
When I looked up,
I gasped.
Then I realized.

My true love was right in front of me,
He always made me feel safe,
He made me happy.
I whispered:

"why did I not see,
You were always here."
He looked at me curiously,
He asked what I meant.

I told him what I realized was my feeling,
I told him:
"I just realized,
I love you."
