I discovered my faith
As a sculptor discovers the statue
Concealed in the block of marble facing him.
I chipped away at Christianity,
Discarding the unnecessary beliefs
And their attendant implications
Until what remained was
Razor-simple.
My deity is God--by any name.
My faith is love, burning bright.
All gods are true, for they are one,
And only through love can we unite
With the Infinite.

I strongly believe that finding our faith is the only way to truly have faith. I believe that doubt is a necesary part of belief: doubt causes us to meditate, to consider what is and is not true. It causes us to think and discover what we really do believe, to not just accept things for what everyone else tells us they should be. We are all individuals and we must discover our individuality.
This piece is very poetic and well phrased. It expresses your faith (and possibly struggles with it?) very well. I thank you for sharing this. Best of luck in the contest! I hope you win!

Thank you! Yes, I agree--faith without doubt is empty or at best naive. Having doubt allows faith to deepen and to mature.

I like this. The comparison to the sculptor works well. It was well thought out. I know you've struggled with this for a while. 'My diety is God -- by any name' is true for many people and you've put it simply which makes the poem even stronger. Great job!

I like this poem. What stands out to me the most is, "My deity is God--by any name.
My faith is love, burning bright.
All Gods are true, for they are one,
And only through love can we unite
with the infinite."
A good poem. Thanks for your entry.

Thank you very much for your comments. I felt a bit apprehensive writing this poem, unsure how many people I would offend. I am considering being more concrete about the things I discarded, but they are pretty basic to Christian faith, and I'm wibbling.

Interesting thoughts
That seem to be going through the mind of this artist as he finishes his masterpiece. This is possibly running parallel with his life as he grows older as well.
Very thought provoking.
I enjoyed reading this one very much.
Great Job
