There is beauty in the night
I so long for you to see it--
The perfume of dying roses,
A mob of maggots promising flies.
But all you see is plant decay
And the exact number of hours
Since a person died.
There is magic in the night.
I so wish that you would feel it--
The dance of spiders on dewlit webs,
A fluttering of wings and a raven's cry.
But you tease the spiders and ignore the webs,
The ravens disturb your concentration
As they feed and fly.
Where is your sense of wonder,
Wednesday?

Interesting!
The first stanza brought to mind Grissom from CSI. I love the descriptions and the comparison between what so many see and what is truly there. Good job on the prompt. Writing to prompts tends to be harder sometimes.

Morticia Addams is the only person I can imagine who could look at maggots and exclaim, "Oh, look! Someday, they'll grow up to be flies!"
Well, except for maybe Abby on NCIS. (g)

Cool poem... the first and second stanzas are really well written. I know the last two lines are present because they are an important element for the contest. However, I think the poem works brilliantly without them. As an alternative, perhaps the last two sentences could be the title (the existing title is already in the first line of the poem)... it's just a suggestion.
I enjoyed reading. Good luck with the contest.
Thank you,

It's an excellent suggestion, and I am seriously considering it. Thank you!

Nice. And cool idea. So glad someone chose Morticia. She is just lovely.
A very interesting piece. And I liked the subtle rhyming you put in here and there.
Thanks for entering.
