molten fingertips
grip mine
bringing them to swollen lips
(oh, sublime, tender mountains!)
as eyes, once distant,
fix
upon Pompeii
until even the earth
that holds me
trembles
in expectation
Author notes
Vesuvius is the volcano best known for its eruption in AD 79 that led to the destruction of the Roman city of Pompeii. It is considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world because of its tendency toward explosive eruptions and its dense, nearby population.

Hmmm... A lover of history? Or historical events? I've quite a few writes with Vesuvius. One likens the eruption of Vesuvius to Katrina. Not so much the breaking of levees as Katrina affected the Gulf Coast as Vesuvius affected that area. As New Orleans was the worst hit, so was Pompeii. Loved the write, especially: "Molten Fingertips."
Write on. One.

Lovely personification of Vesuvius and Pompeii. The word limit curtailed its further development, but this could evolve into a powerful longer piece, don't you think? Nicely done!!

I can find nothing to criticize in this, it touches upon the experience of the earth trembling..for real and also almost sensually. I think you did a fine job with this one. Love, C
