Take my hand if you will
and I will help you through the night chill.
When your strength is gone
do not fear because I am here, you are not alone.
If you need to borrow some strength from me,
that is perfectly alright, it is completely free.
Lord I know this walk of pain,
help her to get through once again.
When the darkness gives way to light,
we will thank you for one more night.
So take my hand if you will,
I am with you peace be still.
I see you look at me with eyes so dim,
and there are tears at the rim.
I just want you to know,
that is okay if you have to go.
But if staying is what you desire,
gather from my strength for your inner fire.
So now these words I bless you.
"May the Lord bless you and keep you,
may the good Lord grant you peace.
Take my hand if you will,
I am with you peace be still.
Author notes
I chose to do option three. I do have a 98 year old patient, sometimes when the pain and discomfort get to her, I take her hand and softly pray with her or just simpley repeat the above.
What I am thinking when my patient reaches for my hand.

Absolutely perfect.
This is so wonderfully written and should be posted in rest homes and hospitals for others to read and get the benefit from. There are no words to tell just how good this poem is. I get the feeling that it is God talking through you in these words. "Take My Hand" yes indeed that is His wish that all would take His hand at all times, but especially when in times of trials and pain. He brings peace to all and has sent a wonderful deciple in you to show the way. This is absolutely beautiful.
