To Not Resist

Missing image
Nocturnally oriented
loving to live on the dark side
to paint and write in the dark of night
to stroll outside, be caught in moontide

Emotionally motivated
drawn to the contrast of white and black
to set lines free on watercolor paper
to assemble words as an aphrodisiac

Artistically compelled
driven to create what did not exist
to free the heart with a word attack
to design images to not resist

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Author notes
Words flow out
land on the page
so easily,
one, two, three,
finished.
Lines, on the other hand,
do not transmit as easily
from mind to paper;
so sketch, crosshatch once again
until it comes closer
to expectations.
And then the battle
with technology
as mysterious settings
I cannot adapt
cut off the sides
of the drawing!
But I rather like
the proportions!
In a list
Words come alive when answered in kind.
    wonderful ...
    we seem to be very much alike ...
    I don't know how to draw though - although I know how to paint ... sounds weird, no ?
    also, I am an early bird, going to bed at 8 pm, together with the birds (inside and outside) ... so the night-time is still a mystery for me, that is waiting to be explored creatively - except for my dream-walks, of course ...
    regarding your attraction to herbs, I was reading a chapter in my book "the way of the shaman" yesterday evening that talked about the shaman retrieving plant- and herb-spirits (besides the ones of his animal-helpers) to become his assistants in healing ...
    it seems that plants have an animal- or stone-identity in non-ordinary reality ... (often, they are bees, snakes, rocks etc.) any personal experience from your side ?
      Maa, about to search farther into the healing
      elements of herbs, their mysterious nature.
      So far just attempting to find a large variety
      and keep them alive!
      Engrossed in the delight of having fresh herbs
      to add to my cullinary creations. Just gave
      my daughter a new stack of herb books, re healing,
      growing for her birthday, which is today. We're
      sharing what we learn.
      You inspire me to learn more of the hidden nature!
    you're drawings, as always, enhance your poetry! i like your final stanza a lot, sometimes art is simply in freeing the mind, too much constraing can kill a piece!
      Loper, you have it---the winning answer--
      freeing the mind, cutting the constraints.
      "to free the heart with a word attack"
      was going to fall in line with white and black,
      but, instead of backspacing it to oblivion
      I moved it down the page, lying in wait
      for the conclusion. There reason intervened,
      but only momentarily!
    As always, your creativity brings life and story in every stroke of your gifted hands.
    Words and arts put together conceive creative thoughts.
    Just "peeping in" to say "Hello!" again, Mumsy.
    This is wonderful. I really enjoyed this one. "to stroll outside, to be caught in moontide". This is such a lovely line. Well done, and the drawing is wonderful.
    I wish I could sketch like that. I am more of a responsive type of writer and so do so mostly during the day. For me, the words seldom flow easily. Like it.
      Lee, your words as I remember them,
      tell stories of romance and wondering,
      often questioning, always well worth
      the reading.
      Thank you.
    You have two poems here and liked both of them.
    I too love the quietness of the night to write. I can say the poems I like most have been written when everyone around was sleeping.
    'silence falls after the sun is long gone
    to visit the other side of the world
    deserted streets -
    dark homes where beds are occupied by couples
    or lonely dreams
    my thoughts transcend all the limits
    imposed by the day light
    and I understand the present quietness
    is a tender touch in this silent solitude'
    That is how the night makes me feel.
    You very talented, with words and drawings
    Thoughts on images, images upon lines
      Ah, Mari--I identify with
      your well-expressed words--
      "...my thoughts transcend all the limits
      imposed by the day light..."
      Perfect. And the sun visting
      the other side of the world...
      Thank you for sharing your thoughts
      with your poetic words!
    A very interesting poem about the ability, and the compulsion, to create through both both words and images.
      Or have I said that before?
      That little urge keeps pushing
      until new words, new images
      appear on the page!
    If I am right, the poem is about you and your love of art, or more-so, the creation of art. The "nocturnally oriented" and "drawn to the contrast of white and black" of course are obvious hints.
    And I like the "notes" poem, not only was it good but it revealed your frustration and the process involved.
    Your artwork is very compelling, a perfect accompaniment to the poem.
      Thank you, Keystone.
      Yes, I have morphed into
      the night artist role over
      the years and find it most
      comfortable. And the blank
      white paper, waiting for pen line,
      is both scary and compelling.
      Yes, the "backstory" reveals
      that life is not always
      as easy as it could be!
      Thank you so much for
      the thoughts expressed.
      I appreciate your visit.
      It is amazing how artists and writers
      get drawn to the same path,
      can see themselves in each
      other's experiences.
      Happy that you can see yourself
      in this expression, alby.
