Rattle Snakes

Rattler

It's like Hell,
You can't forget it.
It's like a bell,
You can't ignore it.

Like the gods,
Themselves say,
You must heed,
The rattler's way.

Diamondback

Beauty is but half the diamond's charm.
I'm tough, unbreakable, and mean deep down in my heart.
I'm not so sweet as to forgive and forget,
I'd quicker bite than I'd ever get bit.
So walk away now, while you've still got the chance,
Or I'll tear to shreds those fine khaki pants.

Pygmy

I may be small,
But I'm far from weak.
My bite doesn't kill,
But it'll hurt bitter sweet.

I'm not as agressive,
As my short-tempered cousins.
But cross me twice,
And you'll stop calling me Muffins.

Remember well,
My fine prey,
I may have a rattle,
But silent it stays.

Silent, but deadly,
An exagerration,
But don't forget my warning;
My venom is no one's imagination.

Author notes

... That was fun. ^^ Two very... Neat snakes, and a decent little "intro" to the poems. I'm probably going to keep typing up these snake poems. I want these to be sort of.. Informative, but in a general way. Pygmy rattlers are incapable of rattling their tail--at least not loud enough for us to hear. An exceptionally large one? Maybe. But they rarely get over a foot long, and even that's pretty big.

The diamondback rattlesnake is primarily found in dessert regions. It has a highly venomous bite. A common misconception is that its babies(or more, all snake babies) are harmless, or not as harmful at least, as the adult. However, they are, in fact, more dangerous; while the adults control their venom, the babies will simply let it all out in one bite, especially dangerous because the babies generally stay together for a while.

I had a personal experience with a friend thinking about calling her snake "Muffins," so I couldn't resist putting it in here(though her snake was a baby boa and nonvenomous, it was still funny.) I hope this was helpful to you and that you enjoyed it. ^^

I enjoyed this a lot. I actually have an aunt who teaches classes on different kinds of rattlesnakes at a wild-life centre- so I have a little bit of knowledge on the subject. I think it is really important that people are informed about these interesting creatures. I am glad you decided to start posting your poems about them. The part about not calling the snake muffins was my favourite part. Great job, I will definitely read more if you post them.
    All the best!!

    I love snakes!

Esp. growing up as a kid! My room was plastered with pics from calendars of all kinds of snakes, and I'd catch garter snakes for pets and baby rattlers because I was an idiot. Enough said. I love that last one about the pygmy, esp. the part that says "you'll stop calling me Muffin". It flowed better than the first two. But yous got potential!
