The Greatest Gift

A gift was given to you and me,
A gift for us to be set free.
But what is it, this one great gift?
A gift of love to bridge the rift.
An impassable rift caused by our sin,
Which apart from God we can not win.
But what is it, this gift of love?
That lets us be with God above.
How was it, this freedom won?
It was paid by Christ, God's own son.
He was crucified upon that tree,
And left to die at Calvary.
His life he gave for you and me,
His blood the price to be set free.

Author notes

Another one of my earlier poems that was rewritten as I began writing more. Although you can only make a poem so good without changing it, I think it is decent now. The poem was written January 3rd 2008.

It is the faith we have in Him that gives us hope and allows us to carry on. Your sentiments are well expressed in these lines; easy to read and understand what you are saying here.

Oh.. this was really good... I'm running out of things to say that you have not heard before..lol.. and they are all going to sound the same and in a way mean the same thing....
You are such a talented soul.. You bring your poetry to life.. And you tell sweet yet sad stories through very few words, but the impact is strong.. well done..

Mmm... short but still a good write. You mention God quite a bit I've noticed.

    • Well my faith and beliefs are a large part of my character. My poetry is an extention of myself so what is a part of me will be a part of my poetry for the most part.
