When I look at you,
The Universe shrinks to a forgotten realm,
And nothing exists outside of you,
Even I become a ghost,
Something to be discarded, cast aside,
Along with everything else everyone shirks.
When I look at you,
Hot desert winds shave my exhausted flesh,
And in my tortured and neglected mind
Echoes a voice like my own, crying,
"It's not fair, it's not fair, it's not fucking fair!"
The reverberations, the bubbling resentment,
The tempting wolves in sheep's clothing,
The boiling, mad roiling, vain toiling,
The attempts to alter fate that are deflected,
The gust of dust that scrapes against open vulnerability,
The reminder that everything is a waste of time,
Inevitability of merciful death staved by cruelty.
When I look at you,
I remember an egregious ache, a loss of ruth, of truth,
I see all the history of harm,
I see a welcome return to it.
When I look at you,
I see the only thing I want from this life,
The someone who will never be
Mine.

Powerful write indeed! That last stanza was the big punch, having so much love for someone (or something) that could never be. Awesome imagery you used in describing what you feel when you look at 'her'. Another top notch write from you!

excellent, excellent, excellent
Ooooof. This is like getting kicked in the gut by a mule, sweets! What emotional punch you've packed into this one...I mean, there's boiling anger just under the skin of this one. My favortie stanza in this is #4...particularly: "a loss of ruth, of truth, I see all the history of harm, I see a welcome return to it." That is delicious...if dark chocolate, still rich and satisfying. You have done very well with this piece, I think. Thanks for sharing this very impactful and poignant piece of poetry. I really enjoyed this one.
