Within Angels And Demons

Angels dwell within the light,
Demons within the dark,
That is what we’re taught…

Angels care for us,
Demons hurt us,
That is what we’re taught…

Our friends and family, are our angels,
Everyone else are the demons…

If they are the angels,
Why do they cause us such pain?
If the demons are evil,
Why do they help us?
All the answers lie,
Within Angels and Demons,

Angels cause us pain, they betray us,
The demons heal our pain…
Within Angels and Demons…

The Pope and other Holy Men,
Mortal angels they are,
They claim to help us,
Spreading the word of their faiths…

While, we who denounce the faith,
Who fight back against these so called angels,
Are branded heretics and demons,
All because of our lack of faith…

If they are the angels,
Why do they cause us such pain?
If the demons are evil,
Why do they help us?
All the answers lie,
Within Angels and Demons,

Angels cause us pain, they betray us,
The demons heal our pain…
Within Angels and Demons…

Angels they are not,
Demons they are,
Spreading their unholy lies,
Sending innocents to be slaughtered

But then, we’re not angels either,
We stand back, fearing to speak out,
We are as bad as the demons.
We are demons ourselves…

If they are the angels,
Why do they cause us such pain?
If the demons are evil,
Why do they help us?
All the answers lie,
Within Angels and Demons,

Angels cause us pain, they betray us,
The demons heal our pain…
Within Angels and Demons…

If they are the angels,
Why do they cause us such pain?
If the demons are evil,
Why do they help us?
All the answers lie,
Within Angels and Demons,

Angels cause us pain, they betray us,
The demons heal our pain…
Within Angels and Demons…

Within Angels and Demons…

Author notes

I was inspired to write this poem/song by a book called "Angels And Demons" by Dan Brown.
It's also based on a recent betrayl, as well as my thoughts on religion.

I can't agree with this, especially the section,

    "If they are the angels,
Why do they cause us such pain?
    If the demons are evil,
    Why do they help us?
    All the answers lie,
    Within Angels and Demons,"

Because that's generalism as much as saying that Angels are pure, and Demons are bad - it's taking the saying [which you're saying is wrong] and then just turning it on its head completely

Don't get me wrong, I also have my own thoughts on my religion [catholic] and there are some parts that i disagree with, however I don't believe that you can just turn around and say that ALL the answers lie, because just as some angels are pure, others hurt - and just as some demons are bad, others can help us - you know?

However, that aside, I found this to be well written - and appreciate you taking the time to enter

I was using angels & demons as a metaphor, to show the two extremes of morality [good & evil] - the song is basically based entirely on betrayls I've suffered through my life - including from various people of different faiths.

deserves more... in fact i'd of given it at least a silver.. in my mind however there is no good or evil.. except when it comes to perception.. it all boils down to this... our perception can change everything...

An I wrote this when a "friend" metaphorically stabbed me in the back.
I was going to write it based simply on how he values lust above friendship and honour, but I thought it would be more interesting if I wrote it with a number of different "Good-Evil" views

Oh awesome! I LOVE studying demonology...and this is bloody billant. I myself don't believe that demons actually help the hurting, and they do actually tend to opress one.
Religious people or stupid...believe me, I HATE religion. ALL man made rules, ect...but with the Christian view point of angels/demons, it is another story. Just a really weird question, have you been hurt by other 'christians'? I am sorry if you have and no one deserve that! About 99.999% of Christians are rude, hateful, jugmental, and just evil...and they do so on purpose! Believe me, there are the other 1% that are actually descent loving people that feel similar to you.

    Great writing!!
*hah, I noticed that my boyfriend, 'cdudecosner' commented too. SO it MUST be a great work of art there!*

Well, the angels and demons in the poem are meant to be more of a metaphor, meaning it seems that the people close to you (the angels in this case) are gonna hurt you more than people who depise you (the demons)
Religion pretty does suck, but without religion, what are we to believe?
An well, there's been a few too many Christians that have hurt, but I've been hurt just the same by atheists, muslims, pagans, etc
An don't worry, I'm not gonna argue about the nice 1% lol
An thnak you for the comment

This is a good set of lyrics. Speaking from one who is on the religious side, I personally don't believe that demons heal our hurts. I understand where you are coming from though. I know that a lot of the "religious" crowd are no good. Christians as a group are probably the most imperfect people on the planet. They mess up, they hurt people; I will admit, some do so intentionally! Still, we are not all bad. Though sometimes it does seem that way doesn't it? Very good writing! I wish you the best.

The demons are more of a metaphor to all the assholes we meet in life,
while the angels are obviously our friends
Alot of Christians have tended to get on my bad side before, but not all of them lol
An my mum is the worst Christian I know O.O
Ever since I became a Wiccan a few months, she has done nothing but have a go at me over the smallest of things, like wearing a small pentagram necklace, or leaving my bag of runes on my bed
She's acting like I'm best friends with Satan, O.O
      Oh well, lol

Interesting poem, certainly. Never thought of things quite that way before. Though our family and friends are supposedly are angels, they are also the ones that have the potential to hurt us the most because they hold our hearts. This made me think; excellent job.

I do believe he's the same author of 'The Da Vinci Code' which, believe it or not, is one of my favorite movies to watch when nothing else is on! My dad recommended the book 'Angels and Demons' to me, but I haven't read it yet. Anyway, to the point, the poem seemed like a song and I liked that a lot. I can see a lot of truth in your words.

    Angels/demons

Seems that we refuse to believe that some are just plain EVIL. Now the question is .. are the an angel or a demon. But if you love at real evil then one must include Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot and Saddam. All non-religious & none angels. lol

the reason it hurts when the angels help

we live in a world that thrives and survives on sin, a demonic feasting ground for souls. When demons "help" the only reason it doesnt hurt is because you live in sin and they are sin incarnate. Angels are, as you stated of the light, if something is taken out of pitch black darkness into a light purer than any other, would it not hurt like leaving a dim room to go into one that is lit entirely in LEDs? That is the reason it hurts; they are seperated from us and yet they want to help, and breaking that barrier is that pain. I am sorry you feel so strongly about what you said about the Pope and the other church men, and also that you seem to be losing hope in religion. I don't know your reasons but maybe you just got a little too much demon in you. Let an angel help. God Bless

I was more or less using angels and demons as a metaphor to describe how our loved ones cause us more pain than someone we don't know
An I lost faith in christianity years ago (I was a Church of England Christian, but I used "The Pope" as he seems to be more a renowned figure in Christianity)

What i understood by this poem was that it is talking about wordly demons and angels...or maybe you are referring to both, i didn't agree with some of the stuff that you said in some ways. Demons, the ones that exist in the spiritual world really do exist and primarily exist to harm us and do evil. Angels are all around us to help us. But i can understand what you mean by how some family members and friends can be considered as angels, but that they hurt us and disappoint us. Some of your phrases were a little too repetitive, but in some ways this was good as you were trying to prove a point. I liked this poem because you were really honest about your beliefs and the way that you described everything was well done.

I used the term angels and demons as a metaphor to describe how its usually our loved ones that cause us the most pain, instead of a stranger we don't know
an I guess you're right about the phrase been repetitive

    Wonderful

I can really relate to this poem.
I've seen how our "loved ones" can cause us such pain, but I never really thought about it.

    "If they are the angels,
Why do they cause us such pain?
    If the demons are evil,
    Why do they help us?
    All the answers lie,
    Within Angels and Demons"

This stanza made me really think. [like everybody else who commented. xD]
    It makes the mind reel.

I admire your ability to see through these lies and put it in an absolutely amazing poem.

Questions posed from a sad heart.

You bring up valid points in many ways. My disagreement comes from past. We make our own demons and believe me they do NOT help us at all. All life had good and bad. Betrayal is one of the hardest to overcome but can be done. You simply take it and turn it around. Make light of it and add a dash of humor. Often when betrayed, abused et al we tend to turn it inwards on ourselves. WE must've done something and so forth. Then we turn bitter. It is better not to let even our subconcious work at us. The betrayer is the one with the resposibility. Perhaps find out their reasons for why they did what they did to you. If they don't respond...you did the right thing. You wrote about it. Hope it eased the pain a bit. rose
P.S. Demons in demonology do NOT care about the people they 'help'. They are in it for themselves and benefit from the pain of others.

Well, I still feel alot of hatred towards the three betrayers, but I just hope they pay for what they did

I think it is always a harsher hurt when it is by those who were supposed to love and protect us, than if it is by those we expect to be evil.

This is a stark denunciation of religion... unfortunately I believe it is mostly true!
